The recently declared governor-elect of Abia state by the Appeal Court, Alex Otti has condemned the violence that greeted the court’s announcement in Aba, the commercial centre of the state.
In a statement made available to journalists, Otti alleged that the violence in Aba was the handwork of supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Otti who contested the election as the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), described the incident it as unfortunate, “particularly for a state in dire need of liberation”.
Otti, a former managing director of Diamond bank, appealed to all APGA supporters to remain calm even in the face of extreme provocation, denial and injustice.
According to Vanguard, well-meaning individuals in the state have also appealed to security operatives in the state to dismantle few road blocks allegedly mounted by thugs.
“We totally condemn any form violence in the state . It is barbaric and a sad development especially now that the will of the people has triumphed after more than seven months of tortuous and needless legal tussle against the principalities of thuggery, barefaced robbery and high-handed impunity,” their statement read.
Otti, had yesterday, December 2, restated his commitment to assume the mantle of leadership freely given to him by the people of the state, even as he said that he will not give up on in his pursuit of his mandate.

Reacting to the ruling, the state governor, Okezie Ikpeazu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) said his team of lawyers will study the judgment and file an appeal at the Supreme Court.
