Police restricts vehicular movement ahead of FCT area council polls

The Nigeria police force has ordered the restriction of vehicular movement across the Federal Capital Territory on Saturday, March 9, ahead of the FCT area council elections, Leadership reports.

Wilson Inalegwu, the commissioner of police for the FCT in a statement issued by the police public relations officer, ASP Anjuguri Manzah stated that the move was part of measures adopted by the command to ensure security during the elections.

The restriction however excludes vehicles on essential duties  as fire service, ambulances and vehicles used by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and law enforcement or security agencies

Manzah assured residents of the FCT that the command has strategically deployed its personnel, who have been properly briefed on their roles as stipulated in the electoral act, and logistics to achieve conducive election atmosphere, adding that “residents are therefore enjoined to be vigilant and cooperate with the Police and other security agencies by reporting suspicious movements and activities.”

Meanwhile, Solomon Arase, the inspector general of police has said that men of the force will now undergo snap urine test before they are issued firearms.

The IGP said that apart from denying officers who failed the test access to firearms, the force would wean them from drugs or other psychological problems.
