More than 3000 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) are said to be stranded without food, water and shelter after the Nigerian army cleared Rann and other communities in Borno state from Boko Haram insurgents.

On March 23, troops of 22 Brigade in conjunction with Army Headquarters Strike Group , the headquarters of Kala Balge, and rescued hostages.

A few days later, troops of 25 Task Force Brigade rescued 45 men, 85 women and 137 children from the Boko Haram terrorists at Zahdra and Weige villages.

As a result of successful operations, the gallant troops recaptured Wumbi, Tunish, Tilem, Malawaji, Makaudari, Daima, Buduli, Sadigumo, Jiwe, Sidigeri and Kala villages.

According to sources, after the clearance operations over 3000 people mostly women and children who survived the onslaught are now taking refuge at Kala Balge without means of having food or water.

The source added that there are no officials from National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) or Borno State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to render humanitarian services.

Speaking with Vanguard , Usman Zannah, the commissioner for local government and emirate affairs, confirmed the development and expressed concern on the plights of the stranded victims.  He promised that the government would take measures to address all problems being faced by the trapped civilians in Kala Balge.

“We just received a message that more than 3000 people mostly women and children are stranded after the liberation of Kala Balge and other surrounding villages, we have started mobilizing security operatives, SEMA officials and members of the civilian JTF to deliver relief materials to them as soon as possible,” he said.

Commenting on the situation in Kala Balge, Mallam Abdulkadir Mohammed, the information officer of NEMA, noted that all necessary arrangements have been put in place by the agency and soon they would reach out to the displaced people.

“We have received the report that over 3000 IDPs were at some of our satellite camps in Kala Balge, and we have finished the assessment process, and very soon we will reach out to them,” he stated.

Meanwhile, against making any move which could backfire on him and the generality of Nigerians.

In a new video where leader of the insurgents read out a prepared written text, the group said it could be forced to attack Aso Rock Villa.
