Shiite activities alien to Muslim doctrines – Islamic scholar

– A top Islamic scholar, Abubakar Muhajid has said that the activities and doctrines of the Shiite group is alien to Sunni Muslims

– Muhajid said this at the Thursday’s panel held by the Kaduna state commission of inquiry

– He also commended the Nigerian army for their effort in curtailing the activities of the group

More revelations are coming out following the investigation by the commission of inquiry instituted by the Kaduna state government over the December 12, 2015, clash between the Nigerian army and the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN).

Some top Islamic scholar who testified at the panel on Thursday, April 21, said Shiism is alien to the dominant Sunni Muslim faithful of Northern Nigeria.

One of the testifiers, Abubakar Muhajid, a representative of the Jama’atut Tajdidil Islamy based in Kano said he knew IMN leader, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky before he fell out with him due to extremist views of the later.

Abubakar said he was close to the Islamic leader during their days at the Ahamdu Bello University, Zaria when he (El-Zakzaky) formed the Muslim brotherhood.

He added that El-Zakzaky broke out from the group in 1994 when the IMN leader introduced the Shiite doctrine and ideology into the group.

Abubakar also said that any doctrine, ideology or teachings that does not respect the holy prophet (SAW) and the rightly guided caliphs is not Islamic.

He said he was also not surprised that the sect activities would soon constitute serious threat to national security.

Also another scholar, Sheik Sale Muhammed Zaria told that he became a Shiite in 1986 before he came in contact with some Iranians. He also did a 5 year theological course in Iran.

He holds the strong view that Shiites are different from members of IMN because Shiites respect constituted authorities and all other Islamic injunctions.

Abubakar commended the actions and diligence of the Nigeria army in handling the activities of the sect.

Others who gave include, Mallam Aliyu Gusua from Zamfara state and state commandant Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Alhaji Bunu and chief superintendent of corps in charge of Zaria local government area, Farouk Nuhu.

Meanwhile, proceedings of the commission has been adjourned to Monday, April 25 for continuation of presentations.

On December 12, 2015, the Nigerian army and members of the IMN clashed in Zaria, Kaduna state.

The group during their procession blocked the convoy of the chief of army staff, Tukur Buaratai leading to a crisis that claimed lives of many members of the group.
