– His appointment comes into force from April 22 for a five-year single term
The Governing Council of the University of Jos has appointmed Prof. Sebastian Maimako as a new vice chancellor of the university. He takes over from Heyward Mafuyai, whose ended ended on Thursday, on April 21.

According to the statement issued in Jos and signed by Abdullahi Abdullahi, the institution’s principal assistant registrar, information and publications, the the appointement was approved during the 12th governing council meeting of the university held on Friday.
Prof. Sebastian Maimako is set to resume office on June 23 this year.
What you should know about the newly elected vice chancellor
Prof. Sebastian Maimako, who is a professor of accounting and finance, has held several administrative positions in the university.
He worked as dean and deputy dean of the faculty of management sciences of the university; deputy dean of the faculty of social sciences; head and acting fead of the department of management sciences.

Interestingly, Mr Maimako graduated from the University of Jos, faculty of management studies in 1987. Two years after he started serving the university as a graduate assistant and was repeatedly promoted.
He was chosen form a total of 42 applicants, whose number shrunk to 18 and following the Selection Board recommendation.
