Dino Melaye under fire over scandalous statement on sexual harassment

The Nigerian Senate on Tuesday, May 24, during its plenary session, debated on the Sexual Harassment Bill which if passed, will criminalize all acts of sexual harassment among students in Nigeria.

The bill in contention is titled “a bill for an act to make provision for the prohibition of sexual harassment of students by educators in tertiary educational institutions and for other related matters, 2016.”

Senator Dino Melaye representing Kogi West Senatorial district, speaking during the plenary, said that sexual harassment is becoming alarming in tertiary institutions and that women should be caution not to sexually harass men as not all men have the “anointing” to resist such acts.

However, Nigerian reacted to this statement which they feel is in defence of men who sexually assault women based on such a flimsy excuse.

The controversial senator, has been said to be supposedly not saying the ‘truth’ about his real age. 

According to his National Assembly (NASS) profile, Dino Melaye is 42-years-old, and judging from his educational profile, the senator sat for WAEC while still in primary school, around the time he was 12-years-old.
