Serena Williams has claimed a seventh Wimbledon singles title after defeating Germany’s Angelique Kerber in straight sets, 7-5, 6-3.
The win sees the female World number one equal Steffi Graf’s professional era record of 22 grand slam singles crowns.

Williams, 34, edged a tight first set and then held on in the second to clinch an emotional victory and move within two of the all-time grand slam record of 24, held by the Australian Margaret Court.
It was also pay back time for Williams as she avenged her surprise defeat to Kerber in the final of this year’s Australian Open.

Williams had previously lost both of this year’s Grand Slam finals – in Australia to Kerber and at the French Open to Garbine Muguruza.
With the win, Williams added a seventh Wimbledon title to her remarkable trophy cabinet as she previously won the title in 2002, 2003, 2009, 2010, 2012 and 2015.
