– Kebbi state students had classrooms without furniture
– Governor was photographed sitting on bare floor of classroom
– The state has finally provided furniture
The Kebbi state government has commenced the distribution of desks and other classroom furniture to all primary and secondary schools in the state.
Earlier this year, a photo of the state governor, Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, sitting on the floor of an empty classroom with two students went viral. At the time, the governor was criticised for politicising the situation instead of doing something about.
However, in a statement by the special assistant social media of the governor, Aisha Augie-Kuta, the governor and cabinet members had personally visited almost 170 schools in the state since resumption of office under this administration and had documented the main challenges faced by the educational sector which included the dilapidation of existing structures, inadequate or lack of school furniture plus a high amount of incompetent teachers leading to extremely low enrolment and low scores reported after examinations.
