German tactician Gernot Rohr has been named the new technical adviser of the Nigerian national team for the next two years.

Nobody saw the appointment of the 63-year-old coming, following the resignation of Sunday Oliseh and the false announcement of Paul Le Guen as coach who rejected the offer.
Here are the five facts about the Gernot Rohr
1. He was a former player: The German was a former player where he featured for notable European clubs in his days including Bayern Munich and Bordeaux in the early 70’s and late 80’s.
2. He coached more French clubs: Rohr spent most of his coaching career with French clubs where he had three different spells with French Ligue 1 outfit Bordeaux, also with Creteil, Nice, Ajaccio and Nantes.
The highest point of his coaching career in France was when he took Bordeaux into the UEFA Cup finals when they eventually lost to Bayern Munich in 1996.
3. He managed one African club side: The services of the German tactician was also employed by Tunisian club Etoile du Sahel where he was sacked after one season in charge after finishing outside the Champions League position.
4. He has managed three African national teams: Rohr was coach when Gabon co-hosted the Nations Cup with Equatorial Guinea in 2010 where the roller coaster ride ended when Gabon were knocked out on penalties at the quarter finals stage.
Niger also hired the German before the 2013 AFCON in South Africa, but failed to qualify from the group stage.
5. He worked with the German FA: After he was sacked as coach of Burkina Faso in 2015 owing to poor strings of result, the 63-year-old worked with the German Football Federation on developmental programs before he was named Technical Adviser of the Super Eagles.
