– The Nigeria Paralympic committee of Nigeria names 23 athletes for the Games

– Nigeria will only be competing in athletics, powerlifting and table-tennis

– Nigerian Paralympians had an impressive outing at the London 2012 Olympics

The Paralympic Committee of Nigeria has named 23 athletes that will be representing Nigeria at the forthcoming Rio 2016 Paralympic Games next month.

Media officer of the Committee Mr Patrick Ibeh said that the Paralympians will be competing only in three sports athletics , powerlifting, and table-tennis.

Mr Ibeh made it known that Nigeria stands a better chance in winning medals in these sports at the Games and also said that six coaches will be guiding the team to Brazil.

Representing Nigeria in the athletics events are Hannah Babalola, Eucharia Iyiazi, Lauretta Onye, Lovina Onyegbule and Flora Ugwunwa while Friday Aibangbe will be the on male representative.

The contingents for powerlifting includes Nsini Ben, Lucy Ejike, Ndidi Nwosu, Bose Omolayo, Josephine Orji, Esther Onyema and Latifat Tijani all women while Yakubu Adesokan, Roland Ezuruike, Abdulazeez Ibrahim, Nnamdi Innocent, Opeyemi Jegede, Paul Kehinde and Tolu-lope Taiwo are to compete in the men’s category.

Recall that Nigerian Paralympians won 6 Gold, 5 Silver and 2 bronze medals at the last Paralympic Games in London 2012.
