Emir Sanusi’s criticism – Presidency reacts, reveals what Buhari will do

– Sanusi had said Buhari’s administration may end up like that of his predecessor if he failed to retrace his steps

– In reaction, the presidency said such criticisms were good for democracy and would be acted upon

The Presidency said would not fight the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Mohammadu Sanusi, for criticizing the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari but would rather act on it.

Speaking on Thursday, August 25, in an interview with The Punch, the senior special assistant to the president on media and publicity, Garba Shehu, said such criticisms were healthy for democracy.

Buhari won’t fight Sanusi for criticising FG

Emir Sanusi, had on Wednesday, criticised the Buhari-led administration, saying it might end up like that of the immediate past President Goodluck Jonathan if it failed to retrace its steps on some policies.

This government will not fight people for criticising the present administration led by President Buhari.  This kind of criticism is healthy for our democracy. One cannot get better without being criticised. I can assure you that this government is listening.”

Meanwhile, Buhari was said to have held a closed door meeting with the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, Buhari on Thursday.

The meeting is believed to be a fallout of Sanusi’s criticism of some of Buhari’s policies.

A Presidency source said that the CBN would respond appropriately to Sanusi’s comment and Emefiele could have used the opportunity of the meeting with the President to get approval to reply Sanusi.

Former governor of the CBN, Professor Charles Soludo has called on the government to implement a coalition of economic policies that can deal with desperate socio-economic issues for the country to recover economically.
