Sukarat Idowu, a 45-year-old mechanic has been arrested by the police for allegedly using a hot iron to brutalise the face and private part of his five-year-old daughter at their home Ikotun, Lagos.

According to Daily Post, the man, who works as a road side mechanic assaulted the little girl named Monsuratnon Monday, August 22, after he asked the ‎victim to empty‎ faeces into the toilet but she accidentally poured it on the floor.

The five-year-old lost her eye while her private part is now swollen due to the burn.

The incident was reported at the Ikotun Police ‎Station and the suspect who separated from his wife in 2013, was arrested.

Recounting the incident, a neighbour, identified simply as Basirat, said: “The mechanic had a quarrel with his wife and divorced her in 2013 when the girl was just two years old. On that Monday, he asked her to go and dispose of her faeces in a potty in a latrine at the backyard of the house. But the area was slippery and the girl fell, splashing the faeces on the floor.

“The father became angry and got a hot iron. He began to beat her with the hot surface of the iron until the girl’s face became swollen. We tried to caution him, but he would not listen. That was how the matter got to the police.”

The state Police Commissioner, Fatai Owoseni confirming the incident said the victim was receiving treatment at a hospital, adding that the suspect who was being interrogated at the command will be charged for child abuse and assault occasioning harm.
