– Jimoh Ibrahim, a controversial businessman, has emerged the candidate of the PDP faction headed by Ali Modu Sheriff
Controversial businessman, Jimoh Ibrahim, has emerged the candidate of the Ali Modu Sheriff faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the governorship election in Ondo state.
He emerged the candidate after a primary election conducted by the faction in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital.
The exercise was conducted despite a court order stopping Sheriff and his faction from going ahead with the primary election.
Jimoh beat other contenders including Mr Olusola Ebiseni, Honourable Bamiduro Dada, Honourable Niran-Sule Akinsuyi and Mrs Abiye Ademuyegun in the exercise which had 801 delegates from the 18 local governments in Ondo state.

The primary election was conducted by a committee headed by Alhaji Ahmed Gulak and the result showed that Ibrahim got 502 votes.
The excited Ibrahim pleaded for support and said he would curb unemployment in the state if elected governor of the state.
Jimoh may have many more hurdles to cross since the faction of the PDP under which he won the primary election is not reconised by the governors on the platform of the party.

Ali Modu Sheriff, the chairman of the faction is engaged in a long-drawn battle with the Ahmed Makarfi-led faction and this had seriously affected the party as its national headquarters in Abuja has remained locked.
With Ibrahim’s victory, it means the PDP now has two candidates as the Ahmed Makarfi’s faction had produced Eyitayo Jegede, a former commissioner in the state, as its candidate.
