The Minister of Interior Abduhralman Bello Dambazau has described the recently concluded general elections of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) as historic.

This was disclosed in a statement by Osaigbovo Ehisienmen, the press Secretary to the Minister of Interior.

While congratulating Mr. Abubarkar Mahmoud (SAN) on his victory at the 2016 general elections, General Dambazau applauded the NBA for its successful introduction of electronic voting system which speaks volume of the association’s high ethical standards and sense of dexterity.

He described the Mr. Mahmoud, a one time Attorney General and Commissioner for justice in Kano State, as a quintessential legal giant.

He said the NBA president elect will bring his expertise to bear in advancing the nation’s criminal justice system, which has the police and prisons service as major key players.

Mr Mahmoud on Monday, August 1, emerged as the new president of the Nigerian Bar Association.

He polled 3055 votes against Joe-Kyari Gadzama who polled 2,384 votes. Ken Mozia (Senior Advocate of Nigeria), the chairman of the NBA electoral committee, who announced the results said both the first and second vice Presidents emerged unopposed.

The election was conducted through electronic voting It was monitored by Mariam Musa,  the deputy director, Legal of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
