Kuje jail has played host to both ordinary and prominent Nigerians. In recent times, some of the high profile inmates include the National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Olisa Metuh, former Minister of Interior, Comrade Abba Moro and the chairman, DAAR Communications Plc, Chief Raymond Dokpesi, pro-Biafra leader Nnamdi Kanu and many others.
However, as nobody escaped from the jail during this riot, all high-profiled inmates, including Nnamdi Kanu are still in the Kuje prison.
FCT controller clarified that a ‘disagreement’ turned out at about 10.30 am when some prisoners resisted the routine search in their cells.
Odahro added the situation was afterwards brought under control by the security personnel on duty and that no inmate escaped from the prison.
Odahro denied claims that prisoners were shot and restated that the situation had been completely taken care of.
“There was nothing like an attempted jail break, yes we had a minor disagreement between prison officials and some inmates, who refused the routine morning search in their cells.

“I can categorically tell you that no inmate escaped and the situation has been brought under control,’’ he added.
Odahro said security had been beefed up in and around the jail to forestall a recurrence.
Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indingeous People of Biafra has been remanded in Kuje prison since January 20. Hon Justice John Tsoho made the decision during the hearing on Kanu’s bail application.
Kanu was arrested by the State Security Service in Lagos in October 2015 on conspiracy and terrorism charges that were later dropped.
