Nigeria’s female rowing athlete Chierika Okogu has qualified for the semi finals of the rowing event at the ongoing Rio Olympics.

The 23-year-old placed fifth at the quarter final stage but scaled through into a potential medal winning potential position.

The Stanford University student is the first ever and only female Nigerian participant in rowing at any of the Olympic Games held.

Nigerians took to the social media to shower encomium on Okogu for a job well done.

Nigeria is expected to at least win a medal at the ongoing quadrennial tournament as Aruna Quadri keeps shining the country’s colours by creating unbelievable upsets in the table tennis event.

The Nigerian defeated Germany’s Boll Tomi 4-2 to set a historic quarter final berth at the Games and will be facing world number one Ma Long who has been in that position for 48 months.
