Some protesters on Thursday, September 1, hit the major roads in Abuja over government’s plan to swap Boko Haram terrorists with the abducted Chibok school girls.
The individuals under the aegis of the Coalition Against Terrorism and Extremism (CATE) urged the Nigerian government to shun any form of negotiation with the terrorists.
The group marching to the ministry of defence, the Nigerian army headquarters in Garki area of Abuja and the ministry of information said the government should not allow itself to be cowed by any group or sect in the guise of negotiation.
CATE led by its secretary general Daniel Obaje said most of the people calling for the swap of terrorists with the abducted girls are aimed at holding the nation to ransom through “unreasonable” demands.
“We all are not unaware of recent trends in the very successful fight against terrorism as instituted by the dedicated government of President Muhammadu Buhari s has achieved high percentage achievements in this area of ensuring national stability and peace,” Obaje said.
The group also commended the military for its effort in wiping out the Boko Haram sect in the north-east.

Obaje said: “However, certain elements in the nation who have overtime benefited from the spoils of violence and its antecedent followings have risen to distract the vision and drive of this administration to putting a final nail to the coffin of these terrorists.”
Obaje also said any attempt by the Nigerian government to negotiate with the terrorists will serve as an open invitation from miscreants to hold the country’s peace to ransom.

“The present military command has shown commitment and zeal to this struggle and any attempt to initiate negotiation will be aimed at demoralising the already motivated troops whose efforts may be viewed as futile,” he said.
The coalition further called on the Nigerian military to rise and sustain the frontal attacks, so as to consolidate the already gained victory and ignore all diversionary tactics.
After the federal government admitted its readiness to swap some of the captured terrorists with the Chibok girls, the Nigerian army has also said the arrangement should not be perceived as a sign of weakness by Nigerians.
Army theatre commander for Operation Lafiya Dole Lucky Irabor said the Nigerian army is resolved in its plan to reclaim all Boko Haram stronghold in the north east.
Irabor, who is a major general in the army, said the decision by Nigeria’s president Muhammadu Buhari is commendable.
