Former Governor of Plateau State and Senator representing Plateau Centre
at the red chamber on Thursday announced his official defection from
his traditional political party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the
ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Having written officially to the Senate, the letter which was read by the Senate President, Bukola Saraki at the close of today’s plenary, the 2-term Governor of Plateau State crossed immediately from the wing where his former party members sat and joined his new brothers and sisters at the other wing.
Addressing the National Assembly Press at the end of the plenary, Senator Dariye cited the current crisis rocking the PDP at the national level as his main reason for dumping the umbrella party.
It could be recalled that the hitherto largest party in Africa, PDP has been engulfed in crises recently at the National level where Senator Ali Modu Sheriff is dragging the number one stool with the constituted caretaker committee under Senator Ahmed Makarfi.
With the defection of Senator Dariye, the number of PDP Senators in the red chamber has been reduced to 43 while the APC still holds majority with 59 and Labour Party has only one Senator.
