Just in: Commotion as armed robbers strike in Festac

There was pandemonium when armed robbers carried out a robbery operation along on 3rd avenue in Festac Town, Lagos, on Saturday, September 3.

The operation which occurred about 8pm near 3rd Avenue, by 31 road junction, sent some residents in the area scampering for safety after shots were fired by the armed men.

Though, details of the robbery operation were sketchy, those who witnessed the robbery told our correspondence that the robbers trailed some persons who they targeted for valuables.

While the operation took place, motorist plying that route diverted to other routes for fear of falling victim to the robbers, while others scampered for safety for fear of being struck by stray bulletst

The robbers were said to have left the scene quickly, after they fired shots to scare people away.

Some persons who were left shaken by the road side robbery operation attributed the daring heist to the economic crisis.

As at the time of filling this report, there was no indication that the police had made any arrest over the robbery.

In another development, the Lagos state police command has apprehended the most wanted kidnapper and militant leader in the state.

The suspect, Peretun Governor, a pastor had been declared wanted by the police for the alleged abduction of Oba Goriala Useni, the Oniba of Ibaland, killing of a policeman and pipeline vandalism.

Also arrested alongside Governor, was an alleged female supplier of food and armourer to the his gang. The duo were arrested by policemen from the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS).
