Prof. Charles Soludo, the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to ensure the immediate release of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, The Punch reports.

The former CBN governor on Thursday, September 29, said this in Abuja at the presentation of a book titled, ‘The Politics of Biafra and the Future of Nigeria,’ written by Chudi Offodile.

Soludo said Kanu was not popular until security agents arrested him last year, adding that his prolonged detention would make him a hero or a martyr, which would not stop the current Biafran agitation.

He warned that if Kanu was not released, his detention could be used as a campaign tool in 2019, just as the pardoning of Dim Chukwuemeka Ojukwu was used by Shehu Shagari to gain support in the 1980s.

Meanwhile, a prominent prophet has said that the death of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu may cause a war.

Prophet Princewill Iheme in an exclusive short statement made available to NAIJ.com begged President Buhari to free Kanu, who has been in detention since October 15, 2015.
