Nigerian Army warns Niger Delta communities

Just a day after Niger Delta Avengers militants blew up Escravos oil pipeline, the military has issued a stern warning to all host communities in the south-south region.

Premium Times reports that the Joint Military Force in the region, Operation Delta Safe has said it will not tolerate any attempt by aggrieved communities to shut down oil facilities.

Commander of the joint force Joseph Okojie stated this much on Wednesday, October 26 when the Bayelsa Oil and Gas Task Force paid a visit to the headquarters of the military outfit in Yenagoa, Bayelsa state.

Okojie, a Rear Admiral, represented at the event by Kelvin Aligbe, Deputy Commander of the outfit, said there were legal channels of resolving conflict among parties in the oil sector and warned the communities not to take the laws into their hands.

He expressed confidence that the partnership would check illegal shutting down of oil facilities and oil theft in the state.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Army says it has arrested 35 people for working with the Boko Haram terrorists in the North East.

In a statement on Tuesday, October 25, the Army said 4 of those arrested were soldiers, 5 were drug peddlers while the remaining 26 were civilians.
