An Adamawa women’s group say Aisha Buhari violated the Fulani culture by openly criticising her husband.

A women’s group, Adamawa League of Women Empowerment, have condemned the wife of Nigeria’s president, Aisha Buhari, for her outburst on BBC which cast doubt on the leadership style of her husband.

Maryam Ibrahim, the group’s spokesperson at a press conference on Thursday, October 27, in Yola said the comments by Aisha on BBC was counter-productive as it only ridiculed the first family but also exposed President Buhari to attacks from opponents.

The group according to Daily Post, said Aisha being a Fulani woman had violated the Fulani culture and jettisoned the tradition of modesty of Fulanis by openly criticising her husband.

The women faulted Aisha for creating a negative impression of her status as the wife of the president through her comments.

They said her statements had exposed both her husband and the entire family to ridicule and contempt in the eyes of Nigerians and the world at large.

“It is against this backdrop, that we unanimously condemned Mrs Aisha Buhari’s BBC interview because it is ill-timed, counter-productive  and was done in bad taste. Consequently, Mrs Aisha Buhari’s action negate the spirit of  Pula’aku, modesty and decorum which are virtues of fulbe (Fulani),” the women said.

The group which noted that non of the wives of former president’s had ever made negative comments about their husbands, lamented that Mrs Buhari had set a bad precedent in the presidency.

The woman however, declared support for Buhari for his dogged bid to put the country on the right track.

“However, we would like to use this forum to re-iterate our total support and cooperation to President Muhammadu Buhari in his effort to restore the lost glory of Nigeria as a giant of Africa, ” the leader of the group said.

Recall that Aisha had granted an intetview to BBC Hausa Service in London in which she criticized the administration of her husband, President Muhammadu Buhari for allegedly sidelining those who helped him win election and succumbing to s clique of few selfish individuals.

Meanwhile, Aisha Buhari has said she is interested in her husband’s success barely two weeks after she criticized the appointments of some persons in his government, The Sun reports.

Mrs Buhari made this known on Wednesday, October 26, at Beneshiek, headquarters of Kaga Local Government in Borno state, in what looks like a subtle response to the heat generated by her interview to BBC  and her husband response that “she belong to the kitchen, living room and other room.”
