The National Judicial Council (NJC) has constituted a 10-man committee on ethics chaired by a former chief Justice of Nigeria Idris Kutigi.
The committee which was inaugurated by the chief justice of Nigeria Abubakar Mahmoud will ensure a high standard judicial accountability and transparency.
Mahmoud also said the committee would monitor and report negligence by judicial officers in line with ethic standard and performance of judicial activities.
He added that the National Judicial Policy was borne out of realization of the adverse effect of lack of policy framework on the judiciary.

Mahmoud said: “It is indeed a privilege to witness and celebrate the launching of the National Judicial Policy 2016, which will herald a steady transformation of the Nigerian judiciary.”
He said the document is a well drafted response to calls for reform in the judiciary.
He said the policy would also harmonize standards to suit best global practice.
“I am therefore pleased to say, following great efforts by the Council, this Policy will indeed tick the right boxes, while launching this great institution, the Nigerian Judiciary, into a new level and trajectory that will signal the re-birth, re-invigoration and re-dedication to nobler values that distinguish us,” Mahmoud said.

“We could not ignore the fact that today we are faced with misguided impressions as to the operations of our Judiciary, while its more laudable qualities and achievements are arcane to some fellow Nigerians.
“Thus, our resolve and commitment to a publicly accessible, value-and-integrity driven policy for our courts, caused some of the brightest minds in the Judiciary to be gathered together in order to create a clear and credible road map towards the transformation in the Judiciary that fellow citizens expect in Nigeria,” he said.
Members of the committee include chairman of the Independent and Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) Ekpo Nta; Justice Emmanuel Ayoola; former president of the Appeal Court, Justice Umaru Abdullahi; former president of the National Industrial Court, Babatunde Adejumo and the chief judge of the Federal capital territory High Court, Ishaq Bello.

Others are: president of the Nigerian Bar Association Abubakar Mahmoud; two retired justices of the Supreme Court and former president of the NBA, Okey Wali.
The inauguration of the judicial ethics committee comes weeks after operatives of the Department of State Services raided home of some judges over corruption allegations.
Some of the judges arrested judges have in various statements and petitions indicted politicians and a chief judge of a Federal High court in Abuja.
One of those indicted is the minister of transport Rotimi Amaechi who a Supreme Court Justice Inyang Okoro claimed attempted to bribe him to influence the judgment of the Akwa Ibom state elections filed before the apex court.
