Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho admits Pogba is far from his best form.

Previously Gary Neville slammed Paul Pogba’s “embarrassing” performance in 4-0 defeat against Chelsea on Sunday.

Mourinho’s return to his former club did not go well as Manchester United lost 4 – 0 to Antonio Conte’s Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

And  the player was heavily critical of the United’s star defensive efforts: “It was embarrassing from Pogba and Herrera. Kante just walked through them. They are the midfield players. Kante’s just walked through, Hazard’s just walked through. The first goal was just a joke.” The player stressed: “Man United have signed £180million worth of midfielders over the past few years and I still don’t know which is the best pair.”

Recall that Mourinho also criticized the star: “Where Pogba was playing, I was expecting more penetration. Defensively we did really well, we should have had a little bit more.”

Speaking about Pogba Henry stressed: “To talk about Paul Pogba, we are talking about a quality player. When I arrived in the Premier League, I didn’t play well in the beginning. A lot of players don’t play well in the beginning. It’s a process, [but] nowadays the press and fans don’t give a lot of time for people to adapt.”

He added: “Pogba needs to adapt. We all know the qualities he possesses. I think he can deliver. That’s my personal opinion.”

Henry also noted: “Then it depends on Mourinho, he should know where or where not he used be playing. It’s not an easy one, he [Mourinho] has also just arrived [and] he’s also trying to learn about his player.”

However, Mourinho stated: “He can play in so many positions. The problem is not the position. The problem is not the tactical system. The problem is, in my opinion, somebody that comes from a different style of football and needs this time to be at his best level in football that is really difficult to play, especially for midfield players.”

He continued: “I think it is really difficult to play or adapt from different realities, but he is a phenomenal player. He has unbelievable potential. He has years and years to develop his game, so that expectation and investment from the club is based on that – a super player for the next seven or eight years.”

The Manchester United boss concluded: “He’s getting better and better and better at every level. That’s our expectation. We don’t expect Paul to arrive here and the next day to be unbelievable. But the other thing is that we trust him so much that we pass to him this kind of feeling.”
