Trials: Code of Conduct Tribunal relocates to Akwa Ibom state

– The Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) would relocate to Akwa Ibom between December 6 and 9

– The CCT will conduct the trial of 50 public officers in the state during the period

– The public officers allegedly breached the code of conduct ethics

The Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) would relocate to Akwa Ibom between December 6 and 9 to conduct the trial of 50 public officers in the state.

This was made known by the CCT chairman, Danladi Umar in a statement sent to journalists yesterday, November 30.

According to Umar, the defendants comprised of ex-special advisers and local government councillors who served between 2008 and 2009.

Two clerks from Esit and Etim local governments in Akwa Ibom state will also be tried.

Part of the statement read: “The tribunal’s itinerant session helps to clear up backlogs of cases in the zone within the period of the session.

“It also makes legal services at the door step of the defaulters, particularly the low-ranking public officers and as well serves as a means of publicising the activities of the tribunal within the zone.

“The essence is to further strengthen relationship between CCT and the hosting state, whose infrastructure and other logistics would be used for the session.’’ 

CCT as the enforcement and disciplinary arm of the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) compels all public officers in the federal, state and local government levels are compelled to declare their assets within the period of engagement.

High profile cases ongoing at the CCT include that of the former minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godsday Orubebe, and Senate, President , Dr Bukola Saraki.
