Interstate Electrics takes over Enugu Disco, promises better electricity supply in S/East zone

The Interstate Electrics Ltd on Friday took over distribution of electricity in the South East geopolitical zone of the country with a pledge to improve energy delivery and customer service.
The Chief Executive Officer of the company, Mr Robert DIckerman made the pledge in Enugu at the handing over ceremony of the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (Enugu DISCO) by the Federal Government.
Dickerman said the takeover marked the beginning of stable power supply to energy consumers in the South East.
“Our transformation of Enugu DISCO will be anchored on three principles including integrity, customer service and performance,’’ he said.
The chairman expressed the commitment of the company to ensure effective and efficient service delivery for the benefits of the people in the area of coverage.
Handing over the company, the Vice President of Nigeria and Chairman, National Council on Privatisation,(NCP), Alhaji Namadi Sambo said the ceremony marked the conclusion of the 14 year transactions for the reform of the power sector.
Sambo represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum, Dr Danladi Kefasi expressed the commitment and determination of the government to take Nigeria out of darkness by ensuring quality and cost effective delivery of electricity to the people.
While congratulating the successor company, the vice president said the government would sanction any company that performed below expectations.
Earlier in a welcome address, the outgoing CEO of the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company, Mr Suleiman Yahaya said the zone covering Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo states comprised 18 business units.
He said the EEDC had a large market that had not been harnessed adding that it had competent, experienced and resourceful workforce.
Yahaya however, commended President Goodluck Jonathan on the successful transformation of the power sector through the handing over ceremony.
The event featured signing of the handing over certificates by the representative of the vice president, CEO of Interstate Electrics and the board Chairman of EEDC, Chief Emeka Offor.
Other members of the board that attended the event include former Senate President, Sen Ken Nnamani, former Defence Minister, Prince Kayode Adetokunbo, SAN, and Dr Kester Enweronu as well as the representative of the Bureau for Public Enterprises.
