Speaking to newsmen in his Agbarha-Otor country home, while playing host to over 2,000 youths of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Onuesoke warned Northern leaders against comments that could worsen the seeming friction between the South and North.
Noting that southerners had always supported Northern Presidency in the political history of the country, he stressed the need for northerners to support President Jonathan in 2015, adding that “Jonathan means well for Nigerians. He is a detribalised leader who is determined to move the country forward.
“Since 1960 when Nigeria gained independence, this is the first time that a Niger Deltan is governing us. Our Northern leaders should watch their comments. Nigeria as a country does not belong to one region, it belongs to all of us and President Jonathan has the right to contest the 2015 elections.
“No section of the country has the monopoly to govern Nigeria. It is painful that a region that is blessed with oil is not being allowed to preside over the affairs of a country whose resources are being used to develop it.
“We the people of Niger Delta are resolute on Jonathan’s reelection in 2015 and the likes of former President Olusegun Obasanjo and his Northern cohorts cannot make good Nigerians, who are in majority change their support base for Jonathan.”
