Beggar Remanded For Stealing 5-year-old School Girl

A popular beggar identified as Aminu Hamisu has been arrested and remanded at the Kirikiri Maximum Security Prison for allegedly stealing a five-year-old girl in a school compound in Lagos State.

LEADERSHIP gathered that Hamisu who begs for alms at Agege area of the state was caught by the residents of the community while trying to abduct five-year-old Aishat Hassan in her school.

It was further learnt that the notorious beggar had gone to Olusanya Primary School, Agege, to steal Aishat, claiming that she’s his daughter but the bubble burst on him when a resident who knew Hamisu as a popular beggar in Agege saw him and challenged him as he made frantic efforts to escape with the girl.

When Hamisu could not explain his relationship with the girl and suddenly bolted without the girl, residents of the area gave him a hot chase and caught him.

LEADERSHIP further gathered that the residents who did not want to give him jungle justice handed him over to the police in the area before he was charged yesterday with abduction and stealing before the Ebule Egba Magistrate’s Court.

The police officers that brought him to court said Hamisu who confessed that he stole the girl had however refused to disclose why he abducted her.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. T.A. Elias, granted Hamisu who pleaded not guilty bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum and ordered that he should be remanded in Kirikiri Prison pending when he would fulfill his bail condition, while the matter was adjourned till March 15, 2014.
