Anyim Renews Call On Nigerians Abroad To Participate In Nation Building

http://leadership.ng/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/anyim-300x226.jpgThe Secretary to the Federal Government, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, has called on Nigerians living abroad to play active roles in the process of nation building.

Anyim made the call at the weekend in Abidjan while speaking at an event organised by Nigerians in Cote d’Ivoire to mark the nation’s centenary celebration.

The theme for the event was: “Centenary, 167 million people: which way forward’’.
Represented by Nigeria’s ambassador to Cote d’Ivoire, Mrs Ifeoma Akabogu-Chinwuba, Anyim said Nigeria had achieved laudable progress in 100 years.

He urged Nigerians abroad to contribute in making the country a better place.
“Although we still have challenges; what we need is the collective commitment of Nigerians to make the country better.
“It is a task that requires the active participation of every Nigerian; that is the reason this conversation is crucial,’’ Anyim said.

In his speech, President of the ECOWAS Commission, Desire Ouedraogo, said Nigeria occupied a prominent place in the West African sub-region.

Represented by Nigeria’s former ambassador to Cote d’Ivoire, Amb. Jonathan Coker, Ouedraogo lauded Nigeria’s achievement over the past 100 years.

He said that unity, focused leadership and support from the citizenry would enable the country maintain its pride of place in the sub-region.

Earlier, the chairman at the occasion, Mr Blackson Bayewumi, stated that the idea was to engage Nigerians in the debate on the future of the country.

Speakers at the occasion expressed concern that the younger generation was not being given opportunities to participate in decision making processes in the country. (NAN)
