GEJ’s Wife, S/West First Ladies Grace ANTP Women’s Wing Launch

Last Thursday, April 24, 2014 at Eko Hotel, Lagos, Nigeria, the first of its kind in the history of theatre arts industry, the women’s wing of the Association of Nigerian Theatre arts Practitioners (ANTP) was formally launched.

In a release issued by the national co-ordinator/chairperson, Mrs Bola Ashaolu, the wife of the president, Mrs Dame Patience Jonathan, was the chairperson of the occasion, assisted by the first ladies of the federation namely – Mrs Florence Ajimobi, and Mrs Mimiko, while the chief host is the national president, ANTP, Comrade Victor Ashaolu.

According to the release, Mrs Ashaolu hinted that part of the mission of the Group is to use the wing to preach women’s inalienable rights, decency in women’s life style (including dressing), charting way forward for women’s wing theatre to foster peace and unity among women, men and Nigeria in its entirety, and it is to build on the foundation that women are not second class but seasoned citizens of Nigeria.

Mrs Ashaolu further asserted that at a time like this in Nigeria, we need men and women who are ready to commit themselves to selfless task of the nation as the woman is a powerful agent of change; she is the first teacher, the sustainer and maintainer of the home.
