It was gathered that the robbers stormed the private hostels one after the other and dispossessed their victims of their belongings including laptops, mobile phones, money, among others.
In their desperation, the hoodlums attacked some of the students who were in a church located in the vicinity during vigil and equally ransacked the church.
Head of the church, Reverend John Ojo, said that the robbers chased them out of the church during a vigil, adding that majority of the students fled and sustained injuries in the course of running for their lives.
According to him, “the students had been experiencing incessant robbery attack since January and nothing concrete has been put in place to protect them.”
Two of the students attacked, Toyin Banjo and Ayeni Tosin told our reporter that they were in the church when the robbers arrived.
“They forced the windows of the church open after they had successfully dealt with others in the hostels” one of them said, adding that the police arrived the scene shortly after the robbers had left the area.
The state police public relations officer (PPRO), Mrs Folasade Odoro, said the commissioner of police had ordered an investigation of the incident, assuring that the criminals would be brought to book.
