Chime approves N2.9 billion for completion of road projects

Enugu State Executive council has approved over 2.9 billion naira for
the completion of some roads in the state which initial contracts were
terminated because of poor performance and failure of the contractors
to meet required specifications.

This was disclosed by the state commissioner for Information, Mr.
Chuks Ugwoke in a press briefing at the end of the council’s meeting
presided over by Governor Sullivan Chime at the Government House,
Enugu

According to Commissioner Ugwoke, the sum of One Billion, two Hundred
and Thirty Five Million, Seven Hundred and Fifty four Thousand, Four
Hundred and Eighty Three Naira, Eighty Six kobo (N1, 235, 754, 483.86)
was approve by the council for the completion of Amaetiti Achi –
Umuagu Inyi – Awlaw Road.  He added that the contract was awarded to
Greyline International Limited.

The Commissioner who was accompanied in the briefing by his Ministries
of Works and Transport counterparts, Engr Goddy Madueke and Chuka
Utazi as well as the Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Mr. K. O. K
Agbowo added that the sum of one billion, seven hundred and sixty
three million, one hundred and twenty six thousand, seven hundred and
thirty five naira eighty eight kobo (1, 763, 126, 735.88) was also
approved by the council for the completion of Eke – Ebe – Egede – Affa
– Akpakwume – Nze – Aku road.   He added that the contract was
reawarded to Arab contractors.

The State Information boss said that Exco also approved the extension
of the Enugu virtual streets (land transformation agenda) project to
Benjamin Knight Associations Limited at the Sum of two hundred Million
naira (N200, 000, 000).  He noted that the first phase of the project
would cover Enugu East, Enugu North and Enugu South Local Government
areas, adding that other important part of the project implementation
is property enumeration among others.

The Commissioner disclosed that the council approved a new Enugu State
Public Service Rules which should be recommended for adoption and used
by the various Public services in the state.

The Council, he said, approved a draft bill for a law to establish
information and Communication Technology Agency laws for the
transformation of the state into a knowledge-driven economy and
amended the Enugu State Road Traffic Management Authority law.
