There were earlier reports that the parents of the girls were given the money. Former Minister of Education and a leader of the BringBackOurGirls campaign, Oby Ezekwesili condemned the alleged act, describing it as ‘Filthy lucre and disgusting’ via her twitter handle, @obyezeks.
In a swift reaction, Dr.Doyin Okupe, Special Assistant to the President on Public Affairs, labelled the alleged N100m cash gift as ‘falsehood’.
