Amaechi2Unknown gunmen on Tuesday kidnapped the member representing Etche II Constituency in the Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon Ngozi Golden Chioma, in Port Harcourt, the state capital.

LEADERSHIP gathered that Chioma, who is the chairman, House Committee on Judiciary, and a die-hard loyalist of Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, was kidnapped at about 8pm in Diobu, a densely populated area of Port Harcourt.

It was also gathered that the House of Assembly was expected to reconvene yesterday, after last Monday’s approval of Amaechi’s request to access a $280million loan from the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the World Bank for water and sanitation projects, but it was postponed due to the unfortunate incident.

The abduction of Chioma occurred exactly a year after the July 9, 2013 fracas at the hallowed chamber of the House of Assembly, which led to the closure of the complex.

However, the kidnappers of the Etche-born lawmaker are yet to contact his family or make demands for ransom in exchange for his release.

When contacted, the police public relations officer (PPRO) in the state, Ahmad Mohammad, confirmed the abduction of the lawmaker and said the police were making efforts to rescue him from his captors.
