Jonathan’s bus driver escapes mob attack in Kaduna

The driver of one of the vehicles of President Goodluck Jonathan’s campaign had a narrow escape yesterday in Kachia, Kaduna State, after angry youths pelted his vehicle.

Jonathan’s campaign office was commissioned on Sunday in Kaduna under heavy security. Campaign vehicles were distributed to party coordinators in all the local government areas, but reports said that a number of drivers rejected offers to drive the vehicles for fear of attack in areas where the PDP is unpopular. But the PDP’s spokesman in the state, Barrister Ibrahim Mansur said no one rejected the job offer.
The driver had to manoeuvre the bus bearing the pictures of Jonathan to the divisional police office, a resident said, adding that soldiers later patrolled the town to prevent violence.
According to the source, elderly people in the town calmed the youths and cautioned them against further attacks on political parties.
“The vehicle was not damaged due to the presence of policemen and the driver was not hurt in the incident. Normalcy had since returned to the town,” he said.
Police spokesman, Superintendent Aminu Lawan, could not be reached for comments and he did not reply a text message sent to him on the matter.
Meanwhile, Governor Mukhtar Ramalan Yero yesterday inaugurated his campaign team at an elaborate ceremony in Kaduna.
