Fulani Herdsmen Kill 10

Gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen have reportedly left a community in Benue State in moaning and disarray after a fierce attack.

Nigerian Pilot gathered that the herdsmen attacked Vaase communities in Ukum and Agatu Local Government Area, killing no fewer than ten people and rendered thousands homeless.

Mr. Teryima Nguher, Chairman of Ukum Local Government Area confirmed the attacks to newsmen on Wednesday, but could not ascertain the exact number of casualties.

He said the attacks came barely one day after the armed herdsmen attacked over 24 communities and villages in Anyiin, including the hometown of Governor Gabriel Suswam, where no fewer than 18 people were killed.

Meanwhile, a sources who didn’t want his name printed revealed that the assailants who were over 50 in number stormed Vaase community in the early hours of Tuesday and started shooting sporadically.
The source said five people were gunned down during the sporadic shooting while several houses were burnt.

It was also gathered that in Agatu, home of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, deputy governorship running mate, Mr. John Ngbede, the assailants stormed some villages at about 5am same day, killing five local farmers and burning down houses.

When the state’s police command spokesman, Deputy Superintendent John Bako was contacted, he confirmed the Vaase killings but said he was yet to be briefed on the Agatu attack.

This is not the first time Vaase is being attacked as it would be recalled that it was among the communities that were sacked when the Nigerian military invaded Zaki-Biam in 2001, in which scores of people were killed with settlements shattered and reduced to rubbles.

Meanwhile, Fulani herdsmen two weeks ago reportedly crossed from Loko, a community in Nasarawa State to Agatu in Benue State and killed no fewer than eight people in Abugbe, two others in Okoklo, four in Ogwule, one in Ocholoyan and two in other villages.

Recall that Fulani herdsmen on Sunday night February 8, reportedly attacked a community in Benue State, where they killed 18 people, burnt houses as well as farmland.
