In a swift response to the looming post-election violence that is being anticipated by many Nigerians, an apex Igbo group has called on Ndigbo to evacuate from troubled states in the Northern part of the country.

Nigerian Tribune reported that the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Caretaker Committee on Thursday after a meeting at Panafric Hotel, Enugu, raised the alarm over the uncertainties looming in the country.

The apex umbrella of Igbo socio-cultural association in a two-page communiqué, jointly signed by chairman of the Ohanaeze Caretaker Committee, Chief Ralph Obioha, Secretary-General, Dr Zed Chukwujam as well as the chairman of Ohanaeze Elders’ Council, Chief Mbazulike Amechi, called on South-East governors to make contingency arrangements, separately and collectively, to evacuate Igbo citizens who might have been trapped in an area prone to violence.

The Igbo group, however, revealed that there had been no solid agreement between the Ohanaeze Ndigbo and any of the presidential candidates on how to address the four cardinal issues of security for life and property, infrastructural development in Igbo land, reparation for atrocities and war crime against Ndigbo, at least to the level recommended in Oputa Panel Report.

Ohanaeze Ndigbo, which also pointed out the callous neglect of Igbos in Nigeria since the end of the Civil War, said before they commit the entire Ndigbo to any of the presidential candidates, they must discuss fundamental challenges facing Ndigbo.
