The All Progressives Congress has won the rescheduled Edo State House of Assembly election for Orhionmwon Constituency II.
The exercise took place in four wards in Ukpapo, Ugu, Evboesi and Ugboko and 12 polling units.
The Independent National Electoral Commission had cancelled the exercise on April 11, citing pockets of violence in the areas.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mr. Mike Igini, had also told journalists at a press briefing in Benin that the margin of win of the leading candidate “was far less to these areas” which had a total of 4,813 registered voters.
Peoples Democratic Party had earlier withdrawn from the poll over alleged connivance by the INEC to sway the exercise in favour of the APC.
However, declaring the result on Sunday, the Returning Officer, Olowu Owin, said the candidate of the APC, Mr. Roland Asoro, polled a total of 11,486 votes to defeat Mr. Friday Ogieriakhi of the PDP, who got 8, 640 votes.
Owin said a total of 20, 671 votes were cast while 545 of them were declared invalid.
Following the announcement, the APC will have majority presence in the Assembly, when inaugurated in June, having won 21 out of the 24 seats, leaving the PDP with three.
The APC members in Rivers state have decided to “boycott” the state House of Assembly election held in four LGAs in the state.
