Gunmen killed no fewer than 13 persons in separate attacks on Katsak village in Jema’a Local Government Area and Ungwan Danborno in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State in the early hours of Thursday. The gunmen also injured about 15 others who are presently receiving treatment in hospitals.

The state governor, Malam Nasir el-Rufai, on Friday condemned the attacks when members of the state chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria visited him at the Sir Kashim Ibrahim House, Kaduna, but failed to give the number of those killed during the attacks.

He, however, said he was in a crucial meeting with security chiefs in the state over the attacks.

An eyewitness account reports that the gunmen stormed Katsat village when they were celebrating an annual cultural festival at about 9pm on Thursday night and opened fire on them.

Our correspondent gathered that although the identity and mission of the gunmen were unknown by the villagers, the latest attacks had created tension in the villages.

Meanwhile, the governor, who later spoke through his spokesperson, Mr. Samuel Aruwan, sympathised with the victims.

He expressed his determination to work with the security agencies and other relevant bodies to stop killings in the state.
