A civil society organization, the Centre for Socio-Legal Studies (CSLS), has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to place priority on the administration of justice in the country.
The group made this demand in Abuja during a joint press conference, which was attended by Justice Ishaq Bello, chief judge of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court.
Speaking with newsmen, Yemi Akinseye George, SAN, the group’s spokesman, urged the new government to prioritize the confidence in the justice system as its ability to attract investors and tourism, could help to improve the national economy.

He said: “A weak and inefficient justice system discourages investments and tourism while giving the country a bad image both locally and internationally.”
Bello added that adequate material and human resources should therefore be provided in support of implementation of reform in the justice system. This according to him will be money well-spent if embarked on.
It noted that if implemented, the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA), approved by the 7th National Assembly, will address most of the problems currently facing the administration of criminal justice in Nigeria, such as the delay in investigation and prosecution of criminal cases.
