Hon. Kola Oluwawole, the Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, has described as evil and undemocratic, the acts of some states government that failed to conduct local government elections in their various states.

The Speaker made the observation yesterday, August 27 at a sitting of the House where it was screening and confirming the nomination of Justice Kayode Bamisile, a retired chief judge of the state, as the Chairman of the Ekiti State Independent Electoral Commission (EKSIEC).

Other members of the Commission according to a statement issued by Oluwawole’s Special Assistant on Media, Stephen Gbadamosi, three other persons were confirmed.

Oluwawole said that it was pathetic that the immediate-past administration in the state denied the people democratic governance at the grassroots.

“As my colleague, Honourable Olugboyega Aribisogan, has said a while ago, what we are doing today is historic. We have not had election at the grassroots for many years in this state. We are going to have it now, as men and women of integrity have been put together, ready to be saddled with that responsibility.

“For the period of four years that the Kayode Fayemi-led government reigned, there was no election. That was against the tenets of democracy. They refused to conduct elections. They kept on giving untenable excuses.
