A 32-year-old man, Lawrence Aluagu, has been sentenced to life imprisonment on Wednesday, December 9, by a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos, for dealing on hemps.
According to Vanguard, Aluagu who is unemployed, was arraigned on March 8 and had pleaded guilty to the charge of drug trafficking.
In the words of the prosecutor, Jeremiah Aernan, Aluagu was said to have committed the crime in February this year.
The accused had been arrested under the bridge at Ojota, where he was reported to be in the business of selling hemp. Subsequently, about 200 grammes of the substance was recovered from him.

Aernan said: “The offence contravened the provisions of sections 11 (c) of the NDLEA Act, Cap N30 Laws of the Federation, 2004.”
However, the chief judge of the court, Justice Rita Ofili-Ajumogobia, in her judgement ruled that the convict should serve out his term in prison.
Not minding the leniency plea by Aluagu, the judge said: “The accused person is found guilty of the offence as charged, and is accordingly convicted. He is hereby sentenced to life imprisonment.”
In line with the order, Justice Ofili-Ajumogobia ordered the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to destroy the drugs which had been ceased from Aluagu.
Last week, for allegedly abducting a 14-year-old girl at Abule-Egbeda area, a suburb of Lagos state, Boluwatife Adewale, a 23-year-old lady, was arraigned before an Ikeja chief magistrates’ court of the state.
In his narration at the court, the prosecutor, Sergeant Jimah Iseghede, said that the offence was committed between September and November.
Also, the Lagos state police command has carried out a successful operation and arrested four suspected dealers with 18 sacks of Indian hemp.
