Following Manchester United’s exit from the Champions League, fans have been calling for the head of Louis Van Gaal, but who can replace him?

While Van Gaal should be praised for returning United to the Champions League after David Moyes disastrous reign, he has been taken then out of it with over $300m worth of players bought over the last two seasons.

Such a huge outlay has seen fans blast the manager for repeatedly saying his Manchester United team are still in progress.

Here are five managers who could replace the Dutchman if he leaves this coming summer or the 2017 summer as he promised his wife Truus.

1. Carlo Ancelotti: The Italian has already indicated a desire to manage United. A free agent since he left the Real Madrid post in the summer. A sure guarantee for trophies as suggested by the fact that he has won a title in every club he has managed.

He also has Premier League experience having won three titles with Chelsea in two years (2009 – 2011). Ancelotti can guarantee a stabke Champions League season unlike what Van Gaal has shown this season. He has two Champions League titles and four finals to show for his efforts.

2. Massimo Allegri: Hoe his name came about in the running for the United job is a mystery. He has never coached outside Italy though he has trophies to back up his claim. Almost led Juventus to a treble last season but was stopped by the mighty Barcelona featuring Lionel Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez.

He has a nack for winning over fans at any new club he joins. At Cagliari he made the team a household name in Serie B and later Serie A, at AC Milan he won the Serie A and Supercoppa Italiana and at Juventus he name Europe sit up by leading Juventus to a domestic double and the Champions league final.

His track record of using money avaliable to him is laughable. At AC Milan he ditched Carlos Tevez for Alessandro Matri (both bought at close to $15m), he also bought meediocre players and free agents of o quality.

3. Antonio Conte: The man who returned Juventus to the top of the food chain Presently Italy national team boss who is yet to win over neutrals though has returned the team to winning ways. He is very rigid with his 3-5-2 formation which was later converted to a 4-3-1-2, 4-3-3, 4-4-2 by his successor; the aforementioned Massimo Allegri.

He does not speak English which would be a huge hinderance but can spot a talent when he sees one. Made Paul Pogba the man he is today, rejuvenated Andrea Pirlo, made Claudio Marchisio finally fulfill his early promise, finally made Leandro Bonucci and Georgio Chiellini click as a pairing.

4. Marcelo Bielsa: Probably the most innovative coach out there. He favours a 3-3-3-1 formation and the likes of Pep Guardiola, Jorge Sampaoli (Chile boss) and a host of other coaches go to meet him whenever they need to recharge their tactical batteries.

Has coached top teams and delivered though he is yet to win a huge title like the Champions League. Like Van Gaal, he is a strict manager who has fallen out with a nuumber of top starts in his long managerial career.

John Carlin, an English journalist, once stated that Bielsa has “the most learned football library on the planet.”

5. Pep Guardiola: The man ever team wants as their coach (even Barcelona want him back). First coach to win six trophies with the same club in a single year, revolutionized football and has made his Bayern Munich team very hard to beat by constantly changing tactics and playing personnel.

Reports claim he is closer to replacing Manuel Pellegrini at Manchester City than Louis Van Gaal at Manchester United. Would be the dream manager for any player asides Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

He guarantees titles, always integrate youth team players and speaks English well.

With almost 20 titles to his name in less than eight years as a top flight coach, Guardiola has already made himself one of the best in the business. Did I mention his contract expires in the summer of 2016…next year???

Honorable mentions: Alejandro Sabella (Argeina national team coach at the 2014 World Cup), Roberto Di Matteo (Chelsea’s Championss League winning coach, Guus Hiddink, Frank De Boer, Micheal Laundrup, Brendan Rodgers.
