The senate on Tuesday, December 15, urged the federal government to set up project performance and monitoring taskforce to punish contractors who collect mobilization funds.
This followed a motion sponsored by Suleiman Nazif representing Bauchi north senatorial district which seeks to monitor abandoned projects as a way to develop the country.
Nazif noted that the previous government embarked on weekly charade of awarding new contracts or re-awarding old ones at higher prices during its weekly federal executive council meetings.

He also observed that public infrastructures account for most of the abandoned projects which are generally awarded based on considerations given to friends even when they do not possess any technical experience.
The senate president, Bukola Saraki, blamed it on the slow process of oversight functions in the Senate.
Saraki said: “I want to ensure that committees do their oversight work. We must play our role because when we don’t this is what we get and we want to make a difference in the eighth senate. We should move forward in providing a new way that we perform this oversight.”
