A young man in Ezinesi-Oduma in Aninri local government area of Enugu state identified as Friday Anyim, has reportedly killed his stepmother.
According to Vanguard, the victim, Bennedeth Anyim, was allegedly hacked with an axe during her intervention to quell a fight that erupted between two belligerent siblings.
Friday was said to have entered a fight with his elder sister, Abigail Anyim, over an argument over the sale of a water tank to enable him (Friday) raise money for the purchase of a motorcycle for commercial purpose.
But in a bid to have his way, Friday, a son to one of the three wives of his father, picked an axe, apparently to deal a devastating injury on the sister but the late Bennedeth rushed to intervene and was hit by the flying axe.
After the attack, the suspect took to his heels after seeing the deceased sprawling on the floor.
Ebere Amaraizu, the Enugu state police command Public Relations Officer (PRO), who confirmed the incident via a statement, informed that the deceased’s husband, who was in the middle of a meeting in a nearby house, raced home on hearing the news only for him to meet the wife in a pool of blood.
