War on B’Haram Cannot Be Technically Won Without Rescue of Chibok’s Girl, FG Told

The federal government has been urged by the advocacy group campaigning for the rescue of the 219 abducted Chibok secondary school girls by Boko Haram in 2014 to set up a search and rescue team to find the missing girls.

This renewed call is coming on the heel of statement made by President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday, December 30, 2015, during media chat that his government had no intelligence reports on the missing girls.

The group during its new year press briefing held at the Unity Fountain, Abuja, called on the government to investigate all statements by high-ranking military officers which signal that they knew where the Chibok girls were.

The convener of the group and former minister of education, Dr. Oby Ezekwezili asked President Buhari’s administration to make public, the General Sabo fact-finding committee reports on the abduction of Chibok girls.

She called on the federal government to give the search and rescue of the missing girl a top priority and wondered why the president failed to talk about the rescue of the girl in his new year message to the country.

The former minister stated further that the war against Boko Haram cannot be said to have been technically won without the rescue and reunion of the abducted girls.

Ezekwesili said: “We especially noted with great dismay that the issue of rescue of our Chibok girls and other citizens in terrorist captivity did not feature in the president’s New Year address to the nation today (Friday). The implication of such a deliberate omission is not lost on us.

“Therefore we, #BringBackOurGirls movement, families of our Chibok girls, the Chibok community, and all sympathizers to the cause of these innocent schoolgirls continuously unjustly treated will be marching to re-engage with the president in two weeks, on Thursday January 14, 2016 at the State House.

“This date will be exactly 21 months since their abduction, and three months short of two full years in captivity. We shall meet at Unity Fountain as from 8.30 am that day to proceed on the march. We have already dispatched a letter to the President, duly acknowledged by State House officials.”

Meanwhile, The rumour that the Muhammadu Buhari government plans to ban the wearing of the hijab by Muslim women had been dismissed by the senior special assistant to the president on media and publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu.
