Olisa Metuh, the spokesperson of Nigeria’s main opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has denied reports that the party shut out members facing corruption charges from contresting at the party’s national convention.

An official of the party, who craved anonymity, told Daily Trust, yesterday, that the party was looking for members of proven integrity to fill ‎various offices as part of efforts to reposition the party for victory in 2019.

He said this position of the party, perhaps, informed the decision of the PDP national publicity secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh, to declare yesterday that he won’t contest for any position at the convention.

Metuh who had earlier said he will not be seeking a post in PDP come May 21 said that the decision not to contest is personal and completely within my right.

“I have been inundated with calls from friends and associates enquiring about a report in a section of the media suggesting that I have been barred from contesting any position at the forthcoming National Convention of our great party.  Nothing can be farther from the truth!

“At no time have I ever been approached or any responsible person ever infers that the constitution of our party should be changed to exclude those facing court trials.  For the umpteenth time, I refuse to be drawn into any discussion about my matter which is actually subjudice,” he said.

He said the guidelines and constitution of the PDP is in total sync with the Nigerian constitution in the old established order that all persons are deemed innocent until proven guilty by a court of law.

“Nobody in the hierarchy of the PDP can ever ridicule our party by stating the contrary,” he said.

Meanwhile, Mrs Adebimpe Ogunlumade, the Permanent Secretary of Osun state ministry of finance, budget and economic planning has been abducted by unknown gunme‎n.
