I never had cause to conduct a bank transaction until I was in JSS 3, when I had to pay some fees that wasn’t concluded before resumption. Not an experience to forget in a hurry as I was very clumsy at the very simple and basic cash deposit transaction. It however took me another 6years to get a hang and ease of things.
Not sure a lot in my generation necessarily had it any better. We never got exposed to how banks worked even when you had bank accounts it was all about “long waits” and “sign here”. Reality is that you never quite experienced banking until we were “old” enough. I don’t know if our parents thought us under-aged, immature, or it just wasn’t just a “child” thing or maybe it was just the obtainable trend at that time. All I can say is, it seemed more of the “adult” thing. It was seen as the preserve of people working or in business or they are the only set of people who should have business going to Banks.
Away from the past, we now have a generation of children with supersonic rationalization and thinking path. Kids of today are smarter, more enlightened and better informed than older ones probably to exposure to the Internet and global trends. In a bid to further enhance their knowledge base and give more exposure to them, Access Bank Plc has opened the doors of its banking hall and branches for unlimited access to learning of banking practice this summer break through its Holiday Banking Program for Children.
For 16 days from August 15th to August 31st , 2016 select branches in Lagos, Ibadan, Abuja, Kano, Enugu, Benin and Port Harcourt would host kids to learn the basics of banking. Lagos branches would include Sabo, Alausa, Ikorodu, Lekki 1, and Ikota whilst in Ibadan the Ekotedo, Bodija 2, New Court Road and Ring Road branches would offer the programme. The nation’s capital of Abuja would hold the programme at its Karu, Maraba, Aminu Kano and Asokoro branches while Bello Road and Murtala Mohammed Way branches in Kano would be open for the program.
In Benin, branches on Sapele Road and Mission Road will host kids for the programme whilst Ogui Road, Abakaliki Road and Enugu Road branches in the Coal City of Enugu would be engaged for the training. The Holiday Banking programme in Port Harcourt would hold at Trans Amadi, Rumokoro, Olu Obasanjo road and Agip Road Branches.
This is another enviable initiative of Access Bank that would leave kids better off after the experience. I just wish this were existent in my time as a kid too.
