Nigerian military releases woman with links to Boko Haram

– Aisha Wakil, the Nigerian lawyer and negotiator for the Boko Haram group has been released

– The woman was reportedly invited to the Directorate of Military Intelligence for discussion and not for arrest

According to security sources, the Nigerian military has allowed Aisha Wakil, the Nigerian lawyer and negotiator for the Boko Haram group, to go home without charges on Wednesday.

The female lawyer who was reportedly declared wanted by the Nigerian army.

Recalled that Ms Wakil turned herself in to the Defence Headquarters after being declared wanted by the Nigerian army. Several media sources assumed the woman was in trouble for aiding the terrorist group.

However, the army sources claim the woman along with two other wanted (Ahmad Salkida, a journalist known for his access to the Boko Haram leadership, and Ahmed Bolori, Maiduguri-based negotiator) were invited to discuss new strategies in war against Boko Haram.

Ms. Wakil was reportedly treated with respect by the Nigerian security operatives while she was in their facility.

Meanwhile, about 5 traders have been killed by Boko Haram insurgents on a highway in the northeast that was recently reopened after coming under repeated attack from the Islamist group.
