The federal government has said that judges have been busy since the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration came into power.
Speaking at the 2016 annual general conference of the Nigerian Bar Association in Port Harcourt, Rivers state, the attorney general of the federation Abubakar Malami said the Buhari-led administration is fighting corruption using law and Nigerian courts.
Malami said the recent fight against corruption is an indication of the effectiveness of Nigeria’s courts.
He said, so far six judges have been used within the last 15 months in the anti-corruption fight.
Malami said: “There is no doubt that our investigators, prosecutors, private defence counsel and even six Judges have had a very busy time in the last fifteen months as the justice system has become re-invigorated to play the role envisaged for it under the Constitution.”
The attorney general of the federation said it has also become obvious that the justice system has moved against the “untouchable” figures in the country.
“We have seen the tragic evidence of how corruption severely undermined Nigeria’s anti-terror war over the last few years and also seen evidence of how funds budgeted for developmental initiatives and infrastructural facilities grew wings, ended up in illicit private accounts at home and abroad and left our people poorer, sadder and hopelessly more vulnerable,” Malami said.

“Tackling corruption is therefore the key to our ability as a nation to survive the present odds, achieve our often-touted potentials and take our rightful place in the global comity of nations,” he said.
Since May 29, 2015, when the present administration took over power, many notable Nigerians have been arraigned before different courts in the country.
The most famous of these cases include the DasukiGate which involves an allegation against the former national security adviser Sambo Dasuki and many other public figures.
Dasuki is alleged to have diverted public funds slated for the purchase of arms and weapons for the fight against terrorists to the presidential campaign of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
